ST. PAUL’S EPISCOPAL CHURCH
(BR051FIELD PARISH) (We are reprinting by request a history of the churches in Rappahan-' nock County. St. Paul’s Episcopal will be the first in this series)
On a tract of unclaimed land in the village of Woodville, Captain William Walden had a load of lumber unloded, thereby staking a claim on which to build a church, a simple woodeh building was erected and this became St. Paul’s Protestant Episcopal Church.
The first rector of St. Paul’s Church, Rev. William Thomas Leavell, accepted a call to this parish in 1853. His son, William Thomas, was christened in St. Paul’s in 1855, With Mrs. Skinner apd Mrs. Leavell as sponsors.
After John Rrown’s raid at Harpers Ferry, Mr. Leavell returned to his home in Jefferson County, W. Virginia.
