la, and Mr. Simmons, Chief oi Protocol of the Department of State, rode in the Johnson car with Mr. and Mrs. Johnson, while the remainder of the group rode on a farm truck, and made the farm tour, observing haymaking, apple orchards young and old, Angus cows and calves, and an 8year old planting of Chinese Chestnuts.
After the farm tour, the whole group literally unloaded at the Johnson home about noon for a half-hour visit. At the hduse, Mrs. Johnson, assisted by Betty Johnson, Mrs. C. H. H. Branch, Mrs. W. H. Lyne, David Lyne and Tish Kilby, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. L. J. Kilby, served Albemarle Pippins and Skyline Drive Apple Juice. Everyone was very complimentary of these 'Rappahannock foods, and President Sukarno stated that apples of such high quality and flavor never reached Indonesia, which is a tropical country. The local people present were very much impressed by the geniality and friendliness of our visitors fropa one of the world’s youngest democrocies. These people, like our own, underwent many hardships before their freedom was won, and in the life of their democracy they stand now, in 1956, about where the United States stood in 1786, although their progress so far has been faster our own at that time.
