The Woodville - Mt. Lebanon Softball team won the trophy in the Shiloh Association Softball Tournament last Saturday by defeating Culpeper Baptists'8 - 7. It had advanced to .the finals by winning: over Stanardsville, regular season champions, by a seore of 5 - 2 in the semi-finals on the strength of 2-hit pitching of Fred Duncan. Both Stanardsville and and Culpeper had bealten the winners twice during the regular sea- - son, while losing none, but the Woodvifte-Mt. Lebanon team won when it counted most.
In besting the Culpeper team, _ Woodville.* Mt. Lebanon had to come from behind the last inning when, with two men out, two walks and three hits put them one ^ run ahead. In a defensive maneuver Robert Thornhill was brought in from the outfield to play third base, and turned, in two assists and a brilliant catch of a foul ball to preserve the one-run lead. “Buddy" Thornhill and Carson Jenkins got three hits each for the. winners, two of ThornhiQs’s hits being triples.
In a semi-final game the Amlssville Junior entry laid down a barrage of hits to down Woodville - Mt. Lebanon Juniors 94. Amiissville had beaten Washing- - ton and Woodville - Mt. Lebanon had ousted Stanardsville in the quarter finals. A combination of fine pitching, good fielding, and heavy hitting brought victory to the Amissville team.
