A ninth-inning single by Bugs Jenkins, driving across the winning run, and brilliant relief pitching by Frank Riley provided a thrilling climax to the intra-league AllStar. game of the Blue Ridge League. Gordonsville and Flint Hill, 1st and 3rd place teams in the league, opposed Stanardsville, Orange, and Rappahannock, holders of 2nd, 4th and 5th spots respectively. The game was played under the* lights at Orange.
As the 2-1 score indicates, the game was charactertted by the brilliant pitching of all six participating pitchers. Thhe Flint HillGordonsville squad limited their opponents to only two hits, while they collected only four. Flint Hill’s Frank Riley was the winning pitcher, while Deane, of Stanardsville, was charged with the loss.
F*or the first three innings, the mound opponents were Gordonsville’s Johnny Davenport and Scott Knighton of Orange. Knighton pitched hitless ball and fanned two, while Davenport struck out four and gave up one base hit
When the 4th inning got underway, Flint Hill’s Lickliter took the mound against Marvin Miller, of Orange, and the pitcher’s duel continued. Miller went the full three innings, but Lickliter ran into trouble in the sixth when, with one out, two walks, a hit batsman, a wild pitch, and a passed ball resulted in the game's first run.
Frank Riley of Flint Hill, then came in to relieve Lickliter. With runners on first and second, Riley struck out the next two batters to retire the side.
