Reckless Drivers

(lo\ crnor Thomas R. Stanley receutl\ warned Virginia drivers that the constant and uninterrupted highway slaughter in the state demands the employment of stringent curbing methods and that such will be placed in effect if early improvement is not noted. j

Stating that many Virginia drivers apparently fail to realize that their licenses are not demandable rights hut revocable privileges. Governor Stroller said, “I believe license suspensions and revocations to be one of the strongest practical deterrents to careless and reckless driving" and cited Division of Motor Vehicle statistics which showed that, during the past fiscal year. 25.057 licenses were revoked under the mandatory statutes for moving violations alone, in addition to those taken under prerogatives of iudges. In addition, there are neariv 140.000 people in the Commonwealth today with one conviction of speeding or reckless driving who will lose their licenses f convicted again for a similar violation occuring withi/i 1rnonths of the first.
