This is a good time to look your herd over- and consider sending to market those slaughter cattle that have good,finish. Not much price change is' expected in the next few-weeks although we are now in the season when cattle receipts usually begin to pick up, and as the supply moves to market In greater number, prices usually take a „ downward ' trend. However, a H^w cattle cycle toward increasing numbers has been in the making this year. Thus the hold back of cattle to build up herds has resulted in a lower level of slaughter. For the third quarter of 1958, slaughter figures show a. 9 per cent drop over the same quarter a year ago. And in Virginia, slaughter is at its lowest since 1952. *
Estimated receipts in the Virginia auctions were 5 per cent less than the previous week, and 15 per cent less than the corresponding W eek a year ago. >
