The 1959 “Boy 4-Hcr of the Year” from Rappahannock County is Randall Updike, son of Mr. and M'S. John Updike of Wash- ; ingcon,1 Va, Randall has been an outstan.l Y.g 4-H club member since hp entered into 4-H activities . in 1951. 'He has completed 35 project^ in the eight years'as a club member which includes dairy, crop, livestock ar.d‘ electric projects.
Randall’s primary interest lies ’ in his sheep flock which presently - numbers sixteen fewes and three purebred rams*and his purebred Yorkshice’ smv. Two years ago, Randall purchased four purebred' Southdown,ewes and a purebred /ram which was a good start towards "a purebred flock. To date Randall has realized a net profit of $4,074.43 in fhe projects he has completed and also won $273 in '(prize money.
Most recently, Randall’s 4-H winnings are as follows: He showed the Grand Champion and Reserve single at the Orange Are*. Market Hog Show and he received a purebred York gilt besides, prize money; he showed the Champion ewe and ram in the 4-H class, at the Culpeper Farm show ,av well as grand champion ram and reserve ^champion ewe in the open class at)Culpeper.
