William F. Coates
William Franklin Coates, 84, died Thursday, June 11 at his home at Etlan, Va.
Funeral cervices were conducted from the Bethlehem Methodist Church with interment in Etlan Cemetery. Rev. Frank Shoemaker / officiated at the service.
Mr. Coates is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Izah Jenkins of Culpeper; Mrs. Mary Weakley, Sperryville;, and Mrs. Lewis Jenkins of Etlan; four sons, Irvin, Qurlie, Hugh Eddie and Jesse Coates all of Winchester; 34 grand children and 45 great grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. H. P. Jenkins, Peola Mills and Mrs. Nettie Prince of Richmond.
Active pallbearers were Elwood Jenkins, Leslie Jenkins, Alton Jen. kins, Lester Jenkins, Bill Jenkins . and William Jenkins.

There are five general classes with numerous subdivisions which local boards use to indicate whether a man is available, deferred, or ' exempt_and why. Every man is considered as available for induction, in Class I-A, until his eligibility for some other classification is established to the satisfaction of the local board. Lf a registrant does not establish his eligibility for deferment or exemption because of hardship, occupation, study, Reserve or National Guard membership, or. other reason, he is placed in Class I-A. _ In the normal case, a registrant in , Class iL-A will be ordered for an Armed Forces examination shortly before his time to enter service, to determie whether he is ’ acceptable physically, mentally and morally. If he is rejected, he is deferred in Class IV-F. If accptable, he is kept in Class I-A until he is reached for induction.
