June 1 reports show Virginia down five per cent in watermelon acreage from last year_but double the average.

PEACHES
June 1 crop reports show the nation with prospects for 11 per cent more peaches this year than last year. However, taking the canning variety, California Clings, out of the total estimate, the nation will run two per cent less.
The nine southern states will have nine per cent less peaches this year with all states showing decreases except Alabama. However, prospective production is 53 per cent above average.
