Department Gets
Awarded Of Honor
The Award of Honor, the National Safety Council’s highest award, has been presented to the Virginia Department of Highways. It is the third time in the past five years the Department has received the coveted plaque. On two other occasions it received the Award of Merit, the Safety Council’s second-highest honor.
The award is based on the number of man hours worked compared with time Io't because of personal injury accidents. Virginia’s Highway Department has been consistently among the lojvest in the nation in personal injury accident ratings. The Old Dominion road agency's rating was 4.4 accidents per million man hours as compared with a 15.Q rating for the nation as a whole.
