Official and final tabulation of Virginia’s 1959 traffic deaths shows 85 1 to mark a slight reduction irons the 8(>1 of 1958, Col. C. W. Woodson, Jr., Superintendent of Stftte Police and Chairman of the Governor's Highway safety Committee announced recently.
On the basis of deaths per 100 million tjniles _ of travel (death rate), Rappahannock, with nine killed and a death rate of 21.5 had the worst record, (1 for 1958 to 9 for 1959), while Shenandoah
with 17 jcilled and a rate of 19.5, ran second.
Three counties, Bath, Highland and King George experienced no fatalities'and for Highland this was the second consecutive deathless year, Forty counties showed decreases 42 increases and eight recorded exactly the same number as in 1958.
Of the counties experiencing no deaths, King George was accorded . the best record since more travel was experienced there than in the other two.
