7. Application- Granular herbicides are easy to apply with granular applicating equipment after it is properly calibrated. With equipment available to date, it has been rather difficult to adjust these spreaders for uniform, precise applications. Sprayers are easier to calibrate.

8. Volume- Weight considerations- In general, granule formulations weigh less, are easier to haul and handle, and there is less weight on planting equipment. With higher rate per application of low concentration materials, the difference between the granules and water sprays becomes slight.

9. Granular herbicides can be seen on the soil surface after application, thereby reducing the possibility of slips during application.

10. Less contact injury- The biggest advantage of granular herbicides is on crops where injurious liquid contact would occur in using spray applications. This is. especially true in nursery and vegetable crops.

As far as weed control in corn is concerned, trials have indicated that it would require 3 pounds 2, 4-D (acid equivalent) per acre in ill- granular formulation to equal 1 V2 pounds of the ester formulation applied as a spray. With simazine it requires about pounds of the granular formulation (active ingredient) per acre to equal 1 *2 pounds when applied as a spray. Apply the granules directly behind the planter. Have the seed bad smooth and compact to insure good coverage. Calibrate thoroughly, to insure the application of the proper ration of the chemical.
