It IS no sec-ret, of course-, tnar net farm income in rhe United States has been on the downgrade for a number of years.a 24-percent reduction in eight years. Over the same period, we have spent nearly $26 billion in efforts to stabilize the agricultural economy $8 billion in price supports, $4.3 billion for the soil bank and $13.5 billion for overseas disposal of surpluses. And, iir the same time, farm production has increased 17 per cent.

For the fiscal year beginning July 1, the House, on recommendation of its Appropriations Committee, voted $1.2 billion for price supports (under the euphemisticdesignation, “restoration of Capital impairment of the Commodity Credit Corp.”) It also voted $310 million for the conservation reserve of the soil bank and $1.4 billion for reimbursement of the Commor dity Credit Corp. for overseas and other disposal of surplus form commodities.
