3. Rainfall requirements .... Granular formulations in general requir/* more moisture than do sprays to move the weed killer from the granule to the weed seed germinating zone where it kills the weed. Weed control with granules may be less sucessful when rainfall after application is light or erratic.
4. Activity of the herbicideGranular herbicides may last longer than liquids, thus longer residual weed control. In some cases the , chemical is released so slowly that a high enough concentration does not occur to kill the weeds. This has been observ ed in regard to granular Cl PC on large chick weed plants. In other cases the rate of ap plication can be reduced due'to the longer residual activity of the*granular form.
5. Convenience- Granular herbicides are already mixed, ready to use. There is no chance of error in mixing- just apply the correct number of pounds per acre. 6. Cost of equipment- Granular applicators for over the row band treatment behind the planter probably cost less than spray equipment. A spraver would have other uses throughout the year and could be
