REPORTS
Bv Ps*. Burr P. Harrison Washington—The House o f Representatives has passed and sent to the Senate an appropriation bill carrying nearly $4 billion for American agriculture.
Even this large figure is $170 million less than President Eisenhower requested in his budget.
While substantial amounts are provided m the bill for scientific lesearch on agricultural techniques and for marketing assistance to farmers, approximately threefourths of the money is allocated to price support, soil bank and surplus disposal programs, none of which has been successful in placing the average farmer on a sound economic footing.
