Consider the bald eagle. A proud and mighty bird, he is wont to fly where he will, unmindful of petty threats or opposition. His exalted position commands only respect. Yet this week the great bird was scorned by the vanquished. Ordered away by one he had formerly humbled, the bald eagle could do no more than tuck his head and turn back home. >:In

Japan the forces of communism have once a^ain shown themselves for what they are: ruthless, international, deadly serious in their purpose of world conquest. The disbanded commitern has been replaced by machine even more efficient. Surely there is no one so naive as to think of communism as a political party. If you couldn’t do business with the one-man dictator that was Hitler, how much less can you do business with the pernicious hydra, communism? Events like the Jananese riots should draw stark realization that united, perhaps we can stand.

And the bald eagle? A fallen summet, the bungled aftermath of a stricken U-2, Cuba gone Russian, and now the long walk back from Japan’s dosed door. The Eagle’s firm grasp seemed to have been lost when the hand of John Foster Dulles jivent limp. ;
