A much "exiled new Rappahannock County High School is no longer a dream, but a brick; steel and cinderblock reality, reposing on a tvventv-acre lot three miles west of Washington, Va. on Routed 522-211. Built by Baughan Construction Company of Luray at a total cost of $284,427.55, it is a beautiful structure of which Rappahannock can well be proud. Seven classrooms, painted pastel shades, well lighted and ventilated, with blackboards and bulletin boards in each, will welcome the approximate 275 students when school opens September 1. In addition to the classrooms, the school has a convenient and practical home economics department ; a science room; commercial department; clinic loom; cafeteria, seating 90 people which can be used as a classroom if necessary; a kitchen with stainless steel fixtures; a library with maple furnishings; a principal’s office and adjoining general office where supplies and books will be kept.

A lounge, decorated in varying shades of green, furnished with sofa, chairs, tables, and an adjoining rest room, will add to the comfort of the teachers and office workers. A gift of $5,000 was donated by the Public Welfare Foundation^ a private foundation located in Rappahannock, for construction of the lounge.

The spacious auditorium, approximately 80 x 90 feet, with adequate lighting, has a 25 x 35 foot stage draped with green velvet curtains and tan back drops. The auditorium will also serve as gymnasium. Collapsible bleachers have been ordered.

Other features of the school are individual metal lockers which line the long hall through the center of the building; intercommunicating system with speakers in each room; five clocks run from a master one Continued on page twelve
