Social Security News
Serving America for a quarter of a century, social security will send monthly benefits this year to 14 million men, women and childten, according to Miss Florence Schaffner, Field Representative of the Alexandria Social Security Office.
Miss Schaffnei said that there are now 14 million people in the United States over the age of 65, and of those who have retired, 60 per cent are receiving monthly social security checks. In addition to retirement benefits, social security also provides benefits to surviving families upon the death of a worker insured under the program. Regardless of how >oung the worker and his widow may be, if there are minor children surviving, then both the widow and the children mav receive monthly survivor benefits from social security.
Miss Schaffner stated that while statistics as a rule are uninteresting she feels sure that next week’s release will be read with interest by the people in this area. The information to be released will include some facts and figures that relate solely to Rappahannock County.
Revival At Piedmont
Beginning September 5th and coirtinuing through September 10th, services will be conducted by Rev. Ralph Vile at Piedmont Church. Services will begin each evening at 7:30 p.m.
