responsible politician said, for all America to hear, that he could not accept his party’s platform, but since platforms were written to Run on and Not to Stand on, he would support it at that time? And at this time Senator, it may be just as well for me not to remember who said it. However, since I was not called upon to write the election report for the Rappahannock News, I am going to give this hot tip to you, exclusively!! This statement was made by a man with a loud and roaring voice who bellowed long and proudly, first of his impressive family connections and then the great state he represented and how firmly he believed in upholding her high principles. H is face was not one of a Grinning Mountain Climber, but a face of Deception and Evil.
For your edification, dear Senator, we have a “grinning mountain climber” in Rappahannock to whom we are devoted, consequently it would be appreciated if you would accept the remark as a compliment and accept thanks from your joyal and grateful supporters for the good things you have done for our state.
We hope too, that you will, for many more years be called a “mountain climber’’, and each time upon reaching the top and gazing in all directions over your beloved Virginia, the knowledge that you have played such a tremendous part in preserving her principles, will fill you with such pride and happiness that you will, indeed be our permanent grinning mountain climber.
Sincerely yours,
Claire W. Pauze
