To The Editor, Rappahannock News, Washington, Va.

Dear Sir: As a transplanted Yankee but one with deep respect for the traditions of the South I was surprised and disturbed to read in this week’s issue, your slurring reference to one whom 1 thought nearly all Virginians held in high regard, your Senior Senator, Harry Hood Byrd.

Possibly you meant it as a joke but I think many of your readers will fail to see the humour in the description you accord this leading conservative and defender of sound fiscal policy, “grinning little mountain climber.” 1 certainly thought it in very poor taste.
