When you struggle through heavy weekend traffic and begin to regret that the automobile was ever invented your nerves and temper may be eased if you visualize the rosy picture traffic engineers predict for our automotive future. Highways of the future will be a pleasant prospect of smooth, uninterrupted travel, with no traffic jams, no intersections, and few accidents they tell us. Cars ot the future will be guided automatically, so the driver can take a nap, read a book, or play cards while his vehicle rolls smoothly along to its destination automatically following route guides built into the pavement.!
Accidents will be almost nonexistent. auto engineers predict, because cars of the future will be equipped with radar-like devices to detect obstacles ahead and will steer around them or stop automatically. The driver won’t have to keep his eye on the road, because his car will have electronic “eyes’ to take over that task for him.
Highways will be wear-resistant and require little maintenance oi repair. Magnetic route guides will be built into the highway surface All a driver has to do is pre-set hi; desired route on the electronic e quipment in his car, and the vehicle will'follow the correct guide lines in the roadways.
