purchased “Meadowside”, it had been occupied for a number of years by J. Hunton Wood, a bachelor, who had inherited it from his parents, Ashford Wood and his wife Lucy Smith Wood.

Before the Wood family came to “Meadowside”, it had been the home of Mr. and Mrs. Cornelius Smith. Mr. Smith in addition to farming, was engaged in the metchantile business at Laurel Mills. Local history records that when customers came to do their weekly dealing at the general store, they were always dinner guests in the Smith home. "Brookside” is now owned by Mr. and Mrs. John H.
