CATTLE
Look for firm cattle prices for the next two or three weeks, unless a flood of animals hit the market.
Prices have been easing up steadily since the first week in December for a net gain of about a dollar, even though slaughter has' -been running pretty consistently above a year earlier.
Marketings were down somewhat during the first two weeks in January, which may mean they will be up for the last two weeks, but probably not enough to'break prices.
The State graded fat cattle sale in Fredericksburg January 26 will give an indication of buyer sentiment on slaughter prices.
One thing that has been holding hogs. Declines in hog slaughter compared to a year ago have jus; about offset increased beef slaughter, to put total red meat supplies at about the same level as a year earlier during September, October,
