His “Amadis de Gaule” is a superb example of his romantic painting. Its emotionalism, its swirl of figures and its extraordinary color all illustrate not only the heroic exploits of Amadis hut the fiery passions of the 19th Century romantics as well.
Bible Stories Relived
At WMS Meeting
Bible stories were relived Tuesday at the April meeting of the Woman’s Missionary Society of Washington Baptist Church. _
Members of the society were asked to think of the land that was known in the time of Jesus as Palestine... jiow Egypt, Gaza, Lebanon and Jordan. Current educational aids were used to help tell the stories—maps, fladi cards, and beautiful poems of Longfellow and Robert Browning.
The missionaries in those lands are constantly being made more aware of the great conflicts going on there, as the great powers of tjje earth seek to gain control of its leadership and its resources— mainly oft.
The secretary for this area says “No where else in the world is the task'of bearing effective witness to the Christian gospel more difficult.” And the reason he offers for the challenge? 'Islam, the religion of Mohammed, the prophet.
, Royal Service, the official publication of the WMU, was especially interesting to members this month, as it carried a picture and short story of Ann Dwyer, a Medical Missionary in Gaza.
Mrs. D. C. Updike was program chairman for the meeting.
