News For Veterans

A bill, sponsored by thirty-two Senators, has been introduced in the new Congress which would reopen for two years the opportunity for World War I'l veterans to obtain National Service Life Insurance on a participating basis. A similar proposal in the last Congress to re-open such opportunity for a one year period died in the House Rules Committed.

The sponsors of this} new bill have added the additional year on the premise that one year would not be sufficient time ip which to alert veterans to the opportunity. A number of similar bills have been introduced in the House, and Chairman Teague of the House Veterans Affairs Committee stated that he would hold Hearings on insurance matters.

The r'ght to reinstatle or reapply for lost NSLI is a privilege eagerly sought for by hundreds of thousands of veterans, legislation in this direction has made little progress in the past and may not get very far in this Congress.

Edward M. Mathews, of the Front Royal office of the Division of War Veterans’ Claims, is in Washington, Va. at the Clerk’s office on first and third Monday from 2 rOO to 4:00 p.mL and will gladly give more detaijls on this subject or any other matter connected with veteran’s affairs.

Mrs. Buntin of the Welfare Office placed a request for the transfer of $225 to the welfare budget for general relief. This was made a motion arid carried. A request for payment of a bill in the amount of $233 from University of Virginia Hospital for Marlin Wines was submitted and after a motion made by Herbert Foster, with a second -by R. E.
