Ticket In Primary

Congressman Burr P. Harrison, a: a political rally last Friday night in the high school auditorium at Washington, before an audience of 81 persons, strongly ’ urged the election of the straight Harrison-Godwin-Button ticket in the Democratic Primary on July 11th, for Givernor, Leiutenant Governor and Attorney General. Delegate Tim Frost, seeking reelection to the General Assembly, also endorsed the straight ticket.

E. M. Jones, Chairman of the Board of Supervisors, presided over the meeting and pointed uot the importance of the coming primary to the people of Rappahannock County in that the Harrison ticket better reflects the rural view- ^ point.

Congressman Harrison, in his opening remarks, recalled his first political speech in Rappahannock County during the presidential campaign in 1928, when Smith ran against Hoover. At that time, stated Harrison, a political rally on behalf of A1 Smith was held in the Washington High School with so many people attending it was necessary to install 4oud speakers outside for the hundreds standing in the yard and seated in their cars. Whenever Smith’s name was mentioned, the audience wildly shouted and automobile horns blew, and the people left no doubt

Queen Standings

Contestants for Queen of the Castleton Carnival which will be held July 5 - 6 - 7 are Betty Lou Deal who is in first place with 1900 votes and Dot Estes with 1500. Betty Miller is in third place with 1189 and Ann Rutherford has 1049 for fourth place. Others are Lillian Grigsby 907; Dorothy Cook 599; Helen Dodson 460; lEllen Gore 418 and Loretta Grimsley 366.

The Queen will be crowned on July 7th at the carnival grounds.
