Department Post
Mrs. Katie Loucheim, former director of women’s activities of th Democratice National Committee, has been named a deputy assistant Secretary of State/ for Public Affairs, it was announced in Washington, D. C. on January 20. This is the highest post ever held in the State Department by a women.
Mrs. Loucheim was given this honor for her promotion of good will with the women abroad and women’s civic groups here in the U. S. She is said to have built a bridge of goodwill for the U. _ S. with women of the world during her work with the State Department during the past year.
Mrs. Loucheim has visited in Rappahannock many times, staying with Miss Helen Fuller at her weekend home on Long Mountain.

Fort Bliss, Tex.—Army National Guard Pvt. William F. Woodward, son of Mr. and Mrs. David L. Woodward, Route 1, Amissville, Va., recently completed the final phase of six months active duty military training under the Reserve Forces Act program at the Air Defense Training Center, Fort Bliss, Texas.
During this phase Woodward received training in the duties and responsibilities of a missile crewman. He is scheduled to spend the remainder of his military service with the 280th Artillery’s Battery C, an Army National Guard unit in Fairfax.
Woodward 18, is a 1961 graduate of Rappahannock County High School in Washington, Va.
