Recent Feeder Pig
Sale Most Successful
According to James F. Massie, Rappahannock member of the Northern Virginia Feeder Pig Sale, last Monday’s sale was the best in the history of this marketing group.
Fifty head of No. 1 grade pigs averaging 40 pounds topped the sale at $36.50 per hundred weight, or $16.60 a head.
One hundred and thirteen No. 2’s of the same weight brought $34.00 a hundred; Mediums $32.75 and No. 3's $2925.
A total of 556 head were included in the sale. Rappahannock consignors included James F. Massie and Nelson Atkins, Jr.
Results of these sales, like the feeder calf sales, wool pools, etc. demonstrates th decided value of collective bargaining in marketing farm produce. Producers have a higher net profit, which pleases them. Buyers can get what they want when they want it and packaged to fit their needs. The next sale will be held May 22ndAny feeder pig producer can become a member_annual dues only $1.00 per year. Sale regulations and nomination blanks are available through county agent offices.
This is but another example of how farmers can help themselves financially through their own organization, run and controlled one. hundred per cent by themselves.
