According to some of the longtime residents of Washington, Vsl, the original stand of grass on the Washington School yard was worn away the first year the school was in operation and there has been none since.
We feel sure that the long period of baldness convinced the residents that the soil was indeed barren. Consequently no one bothered much about the grass situation. ' Not so with Mr. John Warner, a new-comer, presently principal of the school. I He wanted grass and wouuldn’t believe that he couldn’t have it.
He approached M r. C. B. Palmer and his Department of Vocational Agriculture at Rappahannock County High School with the idea of once again enjoying green grass. A preliminary study of the situation was made and soil samples taken. The Vo. Ag. Department gave Mr. Warner their recommendations and he immediately
