Acreage Survey

Postmaster W. A. Miller announced today that several farmer-patrons on Rural and Star Routes will receive 1962 Acreage Survey cards from their carriers sometime during the week of September 17.
Your Post Office assists the Department of Agriculture each year in making this and two other surveys.
Acreage cards returned by farmers to their carriers will be mailed direct to the Virginia Crop Reporting Service in Richmond. Information from each card, if properly reported, will then be tabulated and combined with other reports to give indications of changes in acreages of crops harvested. Using these facts estimates for the Olcl Dominion’s principal crops will be made. Other surveys provide the Crop Reporting Service with information on yields. From these estimates the outcome and probable size of each of the 1962 crops will be determined.
So, if next week you find in your mail box a white card having ten closely punched holes along the top, don’t put it aside. Postmaster Miller urges that you fill out the card and return it to your carrier. This is important since only a given number of farmers will receive these cards. And your community will be represented according to the number of cards returned.
