Rappahannock

Looks Ahead To

Planned Devel.

•The Board of Supervisors for Rappahannock County has taken the lead in a forthright and foresighted planned economy and future development program for the' county," according to George H. Davis, Jr., Commonwealth's Attorney and legal advisor to the Board. With mountains, scenery and the wide open country in its natural state of beau- : ty, as the county's principal natural resource, the Board has taken an important step ahead of adjoining Culpeper, Warren and Madison counties.

“Since the adoption of Rappahannock's subdivision control ordinance on January 3, 1962, over 5000 acres of land have been proposed for subdivisions in this county," according to Mr, Davis, "with approximately 3784 lot owners, and with the urban population again moving westward from the District of Columbia it appears that by the end of 1963 the number of land owners in this county would double." “Without subdivision controls," according to Mr. Davis, “the health, economy, schools, highways and welfare of the present and future inhabitants of this county woiild be jeopardized." Most subdividers approve 1 the county’s control ordinance and say that it protects the worthwhile subdivider as well as the public. The control ordinance does not prevent subdivisions; it sets up certain standards to be followed. It may prevent the type of subdivision that pleases no one except the promoter who desires to make a "fast buck."
