Many residents from all areas of the county attended the special road hearing held at the courthouse Wednesday, April 3, in connection with the April Board of Supervisors meeting. Mr. D. S. Butler and Mr. Fitzhugh of the State Highway Department heard the many requests for road improvements.
W. Ralph Davis, C. D. Green, Jr., Mrs. A. H. Sisk and Mossy Brown were present to ask that State Route #643 be widened, straightened aqd paved. They stated that the road, two miles in length, was narrow, crooked and dangerous and called attention to a culvert which was a hazard. Their statements pointed out that there were approximately fourteen families living on the road with traffic from their vehicles plus delivery trucks, etc. It was further stated that property owners were willing to donate land necessary for widening. A letter on the subject from Jackson Swain was also read. This road leads off Route 211 west of Amissville and is known as the Laing road. Mrs. O. M.
