Flint Hill Scout Troop #36 and Washington Troop #64 will be hosts for the Two Rivers District Spring Camp-1 oree to be held the weekend ‘ of May 11th. The scouts will i camp on the old Tucker Cooksey land, now owned by Mrs. William Labille, near Flint Hill. Over 200 scouts from this district are expected to attend the camporee. In July, four Washington scouts will spend three weeks at Philmont Scout Ranch near Cimarron, New Mexico. Page Moffett, C. E. Giles, Jr., Roger Hawkins and Jimmy Jenkins, accompanied by T. Carlyle Lea, Jr., Scoutmaster of Troop 64, will leave July 28 for the ranch and return home August 17. Philmont Ranch is a national camping area comprised of 127,000 acres of rugged western country on the slopes of the Sange de Cristo range of the great Rocky Mountain chain. It is rich in wild game and foul and its flashing streams abound with game fish. The ranch offers camping at its best, a true test of skills. After arriving at camp headquarters, groups plan expeditions which last for twelve days. Once out from the base camp area, scouts do their own cooking, carrying all equipment in a pack. They hike, fish, excavate in old Indian dwellings, hunt, ride western ponies, and observe wildlife.
