Fire Guts Cottage
In Flint Hill.....
A small frame cottage In Flint Hill was gutted by fire Tuesday. The house was owned by H. S. Barksdale and occupied by Carter Brown. The interior of the building and most furnishings were destroyed. . Mr. Barksdale said apparently the blaze was caused by the electrical wiring. Just before the flame was discovered, Mr. Barksdale had been in the yard of the house and had not detected anything amiss. There have been several small field and brush fires in the county and according to Forest Warden Raymond Johnson the hazard of fires is just as great as ever if not more so. Largest tracts burned in Rappahannock were 27 and 38 acres, both in the Nethers area. Mr. Johnson said total acreage burned in this county is small in comparison with the rest of the state and attributed this partly to the spendid, efficient cooperation of the county volunteer fire companies.
