Five fire companies responded to a field and' woods fire which burned oVer 200 acres in the Jeffersonton area Saturday and Sunday. Also assisting in suppression of the fire were a contingent of soldiers from i Vint Hill, members of the local reserve unit and a crew of forestry service .men,. . „ . ..J The fire broke out atZiScJ Saturday afternoon and Amissville, Warrenton and Remington fire companies responded. They were joined later by Culpeper and Brandy who were earlier engaged in fire fighting at Lignum where a ten acre fire raged. Although several houses were threatened in the Jeffersonton area, none were burned and damage was kept at a minimum. High winds fanned the flames and caused the fire to spread rapidly. Men stood by all night to prevent the smouldering fire from breaking out anew and Amissville firemen returned to the fire about 10 a.m. Sunday.
This is the most extensive fire in Culpeper in twenty years and is said to have started in the woods near the Theodore Grayson place.
