Two seats on the Rappahannock County Board of Supervisors will be contested and one seat will be filled by a write-in vote in the General Election on Tuesday, November 7. There is no competition in any other of the county offices.
For the State Senate seat, Democratic incumbent George S. Aldhizer II is opposed by Stephen Bradshaw, Republican candidate. Delegate Tom Frost has no competition. Supervisor E. M. Estes of Sperryville, incumbent for the seat in Piedmont Magisterial District, is being opposed by N e t u s H. Brown of Sperryville. Mr. Estes, a long-time merchant in that village, has held this seat for years. Mr. Brown, who is active in the local Jaycee chapter, is employed with Piedmont Chevrolet-Olds in Culpeper. This is his first bid for a public office. H. B. Wood of Woodville, who has served Stonewall District as Supervisor for almost twenty years, meets opposition from Charles C. Gasch; of Castleton. Mr. Wood is ai retired orchardist and' farmer. j Mr. Gasch is owner of Del-; Rio Electric Company with! offices in Castleton and in; Maryland. He is active; in Castleton Fire Department] and in the county fire association. This is hiis first attempt for a public off ice. The seat for Hawthorne Dis-> trict is being vacated by A. H.i Buckner; Jr. of Sperryville.; According to Mr. Buckner his: health and age prevent his seek ing re-election to the position. He has been a member of the Board for 32 years. A possible write-in candidate for Hawthorne District Supervisor is Lt. Col. Norman Wilbur (USAF Ret.) of • Slate Mills. He circulated 'petition for the office, butbusl ness out of the county prevented his filing a declaration candidacy by the 21st deadline Though he was not avail able for comment this week, a family spokesman, said Mr. Wilbur would in all probability campaign for a write-in vote. Mr. Wilbur served 23 years with the U. S. Air Force be-| fore retiring i:o become a farmer. He is a member and Deacon of Slate Mills Baptist Church. Speaks at Thornton Gap
The public is invited to the Thornton’s Gap Regular Baptist Church to hear Brother W. E. Essex of Lebannon, Ind who will be speaking each eve ning at 7:30 p.m. from November 1 to 8. Brother Essex has been a minister for over forty years. He is also the Editor of *The Regular Baptist Messenger,■ a monthly publication which goes out to many families.
