Captain John Thompson, son of Mr. and Mrs. M. L. Thompson of R. F. D. 1, Viewtown, has received the U. S. Air Force Commendation Medal at Plattsburgh AFB, N. Y. Captain Thompson was decorated for meritorious service as a KC-135 Stratotanker instructor navigator. He is on duty at Plattsburgh with the Strategic Air Command.
The captain, a graduate of Ceres (Va.) High School, received his B. S. degree in 1958 from Virginia Polytechnic Institute. He was commissioned there upon completion of the Air Force Reserve Officers Training Corps program.
He is married to the former Phyllis K. Umberger, whose mother resides at 2 Kennedy Drive, Portsmouth, Va.
