Bell, Fairfax, 7 point buck; Robert L. Weachter, Manassas, 3 point buck and John L. Jenkins, Castleton, 8 point buck. McCleary’s Mountain Store, Chester Gap, reports: Ronald C. Tavenner, Wheaton, Md., 5 point buck; Stevie Sealock, Front Royal, a spike buck.
High Meadow Produces Champion Cattle
Records just received on 1967 winnings of cattle bred at High Meadow Farm owned by Josef M. Gardiner, Flint Hill, are as follows: Champion Angus Steer at Shenandoah 4-H and FFA Live stock Show. Grand Champion Steer at Culpeper 4-H Show. Grand Champion Carcass at Atlantic Rural Exposition. According to Admiral Gardiner, “this steer dressed 64%, while the carcass measurements showed a ribeyeareaof 14.5 sq. in., fat at 12th rib of 0.5 inch, fat 2.10 inches per CWT; graded Prime and had abundant plus marbeling.” Admiral Gardiner adds, ‘I am most enthusiastic about this year’s crop of steer calves which, in my opinion, also look like future junior project champions." “My herd was established in 1936 in Upperco, Maryland with heifers from Andelot. Each year since the best heifers have been put back into the herd now numbering 130 head." The herd has been enrolled in the official B.C.I.A. program for several years. W. H. Lyne, Extension Agent
