Population Exceeds
400 Thousand in
Seventh District
Rep. John O. Marsh, Jr., noting that the estimated population of the United States had passed the 200 million mark, said today that “this growth is reflected in our own Seventh Congressional District, where the estimated population now is well above 400 thousand." The Seventh District Congressman cited figures published recently by the Bureau of Population and Economic Research of the Graduate School of Business Administration at the University of Virginia, estimating the population of the Seventh Congressional District at 424,758 as of July 1, 1967. "This district is very large in area, comprising 17 counties and 7 independent cities," Marsh said, "and its growth in population has been accelerated by the expansion of adjacent metropolitan centers and the development of new superhighway networks." "We now have an estimated 299,726 people living in the counties of the district and 125,032 people in the independent cities,” he added. Marsh listed the estimates of the University of Virginia agency for the Seventh Congressional District counties and cities, as follows:
