Skyline Ski Area
I To Open This Year .
Announcement was made today that The Skyline Ski Area, Washington, Virginia had been purchased by the Jenkins Mountain Associates partnership and that the ski area will operate th'is year. Snow making equipment is ready to snow the slopes and the restaurant is preparing for operations. TOe opening date will depend on weather conditions. If the weather conditions permit, planning is progressing for skiing to commence on December 26. Under the new ownership, Colonel Evan A. McNear, Washington, Virginia will be in charge of the overall operations and Herbert Smoot will be general foreman in charge of snow making and lift operations. The new owners intend to operate Skyline on a weekday as well as weekend and holiday schedule. Special activities are being planned for ladies, men, teenagers, ski clubs, schools, etc.
Colonel McNear stated that next year it is intended to expand and improve the ski area and to increase the recreational facilities available at Skyline. The ultimate objective is an all year around recreational area.
The members of the partnership all have home or farms in Rappahannock county.
