The same Act also requires that water quality standards be established for all interstate waters in the Nation. All States in the FWPCA Mid-Atlantic Region have had their standards approved by the Secretary of the Interior except Virginia, Jensen said. Water quality standards for Virginia have not yet been agreed on and are still under discussion.
Jensen cautioned his fellow engineers to “be aware of problems of biology and ecology” in their engineering projects and to consider and appreciate the long range and wide-spread effects of their construction programs on man’s environment.
