Over half of Virginia’s 130 school divisions have established teacher salary scales for next year. And the Virginia Education Association’s final salary roundup predicts that over 60 per cent of the state’s teachers will be in localities with minimum salaries of $7,000 or more and maximum salaries of $10,000 or more. Already established pay scales range up to a minimum salary of $7,550 for new teachers in Falls Church and a maximum salary for experienced (bachelor’s degree) teachers of $11,660 in Prince William. The final survey does not include many higher-paying northern and urban Virginia localities. Four localities not included currently have minimum salaries of $7,000 or more and ten not included currently have maximum salaries of $10,000 or more.
However, more and more teachers are advancing their training to the master’s degree level and next year this will mean additional increments ranging up to $4,907 in Falls Church and $1,000 in Covington and Soutl Boston.
