El wood J. Dean of Amissville receives bass fingerlings for his two-acre farm pond which he constructed last fall. At that time bluegill, redear sunfish and channel catfish were stocked and allowed to mature before the bass were added to the pond recently. The bass come from the Charles City Hatchery, and although they are only three to four weeks old, they will soon begin to devour the other fish and within a year the bass will be 8 or 9 inches long. General recommendations are to wait two years before removing any bass and then only a few large ones each year. Fish the bluegills heavily. The Soil Conservation Service recommends each pond before it is stocked and assists owners in proper management of ponds.
