When I was a child I had this old black mammy. She had been freed from slavery, but she wanted tc live on with my parents, first with my grandfather and his little Indian princess bride, then with my father. She had a room ih oui home just off the ‘stove room’, in il she had her few belongings. Her little room was always as clean a: a pin, guess I stayed back then with her about as much as with mj family. I remember going to sleef in her lap and waking in iry bee the next morning. I loved her. sh«
