This “urging” the Army Corps of Engineers to build a big dam is like urging a starved hound-dog to have a big slice of roast beef. They have been drumming up reasons and jimmying figures for the past ten years in trying to get this pork-barrel project started.
Now they have in desperation been up to Prince Willisim County trying to sweet-talk the people there to start agitating for water from the Rappahannock at Fredericksburg. This would require a pipeline 36 miles long, twice as far as one from the Potomac above Great Falls to Manassas, and a pump lift of 200 feet.
These Big Project engineers seem to be blind to the potential water storage reservoirs in Prince William County. This county has just completed and filled a 500-acre lake on Broad Run. This dam could be raised to double capacity without the change of more than 1/2 mile of highway.
