This year, the Canoe Cruisers Association of Greater Washington has chosen the Hughes River as the site of our annual trash cruise.
Last year, over 70 paddlers in 39 craft turned out on the Thornton River | (perhaps you remember — ■ you gave our efforts wonderful coverage) and we hope for even greater participation on the Hughes.
The Hughes River is an exciting stream with some fast sections and large rocks. There is a lot of trash in it and along the banks. The skill level for boaters is in the intermediate class.
Non-canoeists are also welcome to clean up the area just above the put in, on Route 231 not far from Sperryville. The date is April 9, beginning at 10 a.m. Bring gunnysacks, waders, rakes, and a picnic lunch.
We have had wonderful cooperation and invaluable aid from the landowners and from Iryin Kenyon, the Game Warden. We would like to ask your help in once again publicizing this event so that local people might join with us in a sort of community togetherness, and have a lot of fun in the bargain.
