IT IS ABOUT TIME for the annual cancer fund drive. It is hoped that everyone will be as generous as possible for this worthy cause. Being involved in the drive this year, I have given the subject more study than the common everyday sort of thing.
What is cancer? It seems that the body machinery goes on the rampage and creates abnormal cellular growth. Sometimes this abnormal growth is benign, sometimes it is malignant. The latter is what causes so much concern. Cause of this cellular activity? Unknown, but they are working on it.
Ancient people gave this abnormality the name cancer, or crab, because they pictured it as some kind of invisible monster that seized its victim in its claws, from which there was no escape. If the spot where the seizure manifested was cut away another spot would appear to show this dread entity still had its victim in its grasp. A crab is a^ ten-legged crustacean, it is thought that they have the ability to grow a new leg if one is lost, so, horror of horrors.
I ONCE KNEW A DOCTOR, I guess he could be called a metaphysician, who promulgated this thought: If tyou live in complete harmony with nature and the Divine Mind, you will not be susceptible to these various diseases of the body. I don’t know, it may be that Karma is involved in our suffering. But I ’ think that it is worth a try, that we start now trying to live in harmony with God. It may be that He will give man the wisdom to treat this dread disease that future generations will be spared. □
