RAPPAHANNOCK’S super cross country team took the Virginia State Championships by storm Saturday, winning an unprecedented second state A title in their second year of competition.
Their winning score was an amazingly low 17. The perfect score is 15. Instate championships this is unheard of.
The second place Perry McCleur team scored 47 points. The Panthers finished 1, 2, 3, 4, 7, 17 and 20 in the A class field.
The finishers were, in order, Charles Thomas, senior; Bill Taylor, sophomore; Tom Taylor, junior; John Summers, junior; Ronnie Nicholson, freshman; Bob Titchenell, junior; and Morris Donaldson, junior.
THOMAS CAPPED a short but brilliant cross country career with a new state record run. His time over the 2.4 mile course at William and Mary College in Williamsburg was 12:08, a 39-second improvement
