THE FIFTH POSTULATE STATED that .the people are only stimulated by their concern for their own well-being. Certain blue collar workers got the impression McGovern would not allow them to leave anything to their children and they certainly did not want to see McGovern give $1,000 to everybody, Kilpatrick said. He also said the Watergate issue only attracted laughs from the crowds. He said that the “worst is yet come” out of the Watergate mess.
HIS SIXTH POSTULATE SAID that “all things equal, the incumbent will have a 20% advantage” in the election, assuming he has not committed a felony. An example of this was the fact that Nixon had 100% “identification” with the electorate whereas McGovern had 12% identification with the electorate, before the primaries began.
