“Despite a record breaking toll of 114 for the month of March, 1972, we stood only six above 1971’s deaths on October 1, 1972, and had every hope of another year of death reduction.
“Although the 120 deaths last December set a record for the month, it is extremely unlikely that we can end this year with a reduction,” he noted.
There were 1,304 deaths in 1969, 1,231 in 1970 and I, 218 last year. Colonel Burgess said there is some cold comfort in the dropping of the rate of deaths for each 100 million miles
